![]() What does House Morgain do? It's a modern temple for learning, celebration and retreat visits. What's a temple? A sacred place. Physical, mental or virtual. Indoors, outdoors, internet, inner landscape. Our temple is an actual building, a place where people can meet in peaceful and creative companionship. Our members are mainly Pagan, but not necessarily, as we very much welcome likeminded, independent people. We hold gentle friendly celebrations of the traditional festivals, as well as courses and personal visits. Who are you? An online and offline network of independent minded people with the kinds of interests you'll find around this site. Shan, John, Annie, Colin, Jenny and Lorri are the Elders or leading members. More Why the big connection with the Celts, and Wales? House Morgain is located in South Wales, 15 mins from the Severn Bridge boundary. It's owned and run by a Welsh/ English family and many of its members are either Celts or Celtic Guests. What is this 'teulu' or clan? Teulu is a Welsh word for kin, family or clan. Ours is a loose but committed network of members who help the House in its work, enjoy its resources, support each other, and enjoy themselves together. Can I visit House Morgain? How? Yes you can, if you arrange the day you'd like to come. Your visit can be an hour or much longer. It costs no money but you'll be expected to do a little to help the House in return. More Where are you? 2 mins from the M4 yet tucked away quiet. Bristol/ Cardiff 30 mins/ Glastonbury 1 hr 15. London/ Oxford/ Devon 2 – 2.5 hrs. Mainline express train/ coach station nearby. What kind of people get involved with House Morgain? Well the age range is from a few weeks to 80+. Women, men, girls, boys. Parents, their children, couples, singles, gay, straight. Self educated, formally educated. Practical people, professionals, academics, dreamers, artists. Pagans of all kinds and the likeminded. The key requirement is to be independent minded. How do you connect to other groups and projects? We constantly seek to establish and maintain friendly connections for mutual support and interest. Many of our members belong to other projects as well. What kind of courses do you do? Celtic studies centred on Wales. The Craft: Circlework. Druidry. Political Economy. More Who were the Celts? A collection of peoples who lived all over Europe from about 800BCE. Some were conquered by Rome, some not. Modern Celts base their identity on bloodline, language, home location or a deep love and commitment as a Celtic Guest. The idea of the Celts is associated particularly with courage, creativity and independence. More What is Paganism? Originally the faith of country people in Roman times, now Paganism reclaims a pre-industrial past for societies dominated by cities. It is a wideranging international network which opened out from Britain in the 1950s. There are many many kinds of Pagans, who guard a fierce emphasis on independent thinking, so it is quite risky to describe them! There are common themes around loving theEarth, being earthy - and being fiercely independent. What is the Goddess? The feminine divine, which was suppressed and hidden for many centuries but is now internationally recognised and respected, with some exceptions. Often seen as Mother Earth, the Goddess has "ten thousand names." She is venerated either alone, or with the God, or as many goddesses. What is the Craft? Based on folk traditions the Craft teaches personal responsibility within an interconnected web of life that includes the whole universe. Veneration is given to Goddess, usually to the God as well in partnership, and the Ancestors. The much loved Circle as a metaphor and a physical place re-created for ritual is an honouring of Air, Fire, Water, Earth and Spirit. Eight Festivals of theYear are celebrated. What is Druidry? Originally the scholar class of the Celtic peoples, acting as judges, lawyers, priests, healers and poet recorders (bards). Nowadays there is two main kinds: the Welsh establishment Druidry who focus Welsh culture, arts and literature; and Pagan Druidry. Pagan Druids teach a spirituality of loving Nature, personal learning and creativity. Druid rituals are commonly held in public places such as sacred sites, for anyone to join. Traditional Festivals of theYear are celebrated. What is Political Economy? The study of power and ownership, and how much gets left over for the rest of us. What is 'ritual'? A collection of actions designed to create deep relaxation and peace so that the practitioner or group can sensitively work to an aim. That aim may be a kind of deep listening (divination), healing, trancework, meditation, ceremonial theatre, storytelling, artwork, community building, life rites - or a combination. What is philosophy? Literally 'love of wisdom' (Greek). The art of asking questions so as to create clear thinking. Philosophy often clears up questions but by doing so, opens up more. What is darklight philosophy? A way of healing dualism - the habit of seeing things in pairs of good/ bad, above/ below, light/ dark. By practising darklight we can become more tolerant of others, without losing our own moral dedication. We learn to see the bigger picture. What are the Festivals and why are they so important? The traditional Festivals of the Year mark out our lives so we don't live in a blank round of days. Each Festival is a lovely reason to connect with each other and with our inner beliefs. They are gateways to learning, strength and fun. ![]() House Morgain is a non-profit Club.
